RENE ALVARADO
My art narrates my life experiences through figurative surrealism. With imparted passion, the paintings represent social rhetoric, the richness of my cultural upbringing, and the enigma of my creative instincts and inner feelings. They give voice to the celebration of the human spirit as I see it and have experienced it.
René is from a small village – El Manantial, Coahuila – just outside Torreon, Mexico, and came to the United States as a shy seven-year-old. In the 22 years that René has been painting professionally, he has come to realize that his work is defined both by his familial roots in northern Mexico and by the subtle, mystical environment of his adopted home in West Texas. René’s creative process is immersed in this dual identity; he paints what he feels, that which is himself. You will see on canvas the richness of his grandparents’ folk tales alongside the adventures of the ‘new life’ created by his hard-working immigrant parents. Through symbolism, metaphors, and pictorial language, René tells his story.
