STEVEN DALUZ: BETWEEN WORLDS

MAY 5 - MAY 31, 2021

AnArte Gallery is honored to present Steven DaLuz’s Between Worlds solo exhibition at the gallery featuring his figurative works of art. AnArte Gallery will host an opening reception on Wednesday, May 5, 2021, from 5:30 - 7:30 pm with an Art Talk by Steven DaLuz at 6:15 pm, Guitar Music by Louis Davila.

In this series, DaLuz states, “I begin to consider the notion of transitioning between states of being...between the present and the future...between the physical and the spiritual...between one dimension and another. I believe there is so much about our universe that we cannot even begin to comprehend with our limited senses. Much the same could be said about our own minds. Are their places where sky and sea merge...where dimensions meet? Imagine if we could travel, in the blink of an eye, from this physical realm in our present time and space to another world--one just out of our reach, but so close we can almost reach out and touch it. Are their portals that allow us to enter those realms...a higher plane of existence? Are they attainable within the recesses of our minds...our souls? Is it possible to rise above the chaos, the corporeal, to reach a state of bliss we have no words to adequately express? I have chosen the female form to explore some of these ideas...in an elevated state of being...metaphorically, if not literally moving between worlds.”

Artist Statement

I am compelled to do work that conjures up a sense of mystery and ethereal light. While identified with works that are often referred to as "imagined landscapes", employing a process using metal leaf, chemically-induced patinas, oil, and other mixed media, I also consider the figure as endlessly relevant, with inherent potential for poetic introspection. Sharing a similar sensibility with 19th-century luminism, I am most concerned with the sublime, the expressive beauty of the human figure, and the aesthetic power of light moving through an imagined atmosphere.

My intention is not a literal narrative.  Instead, I strive to evoke a feeling within the viewer.  My artwork need not answer any questions, present a political position, nor expound upon a narrative.  For me, the raw image alone need not explain anything and can be enough to ignite the imagination of the viewer.
