ALEX BROCHON | WESTERN POP

ON VIEW JUNE 15 - JULY 10, 2022

AnArte Gallery is honored to introduce Alex Brochon’s solo exhibition, Western Pop. Please join us for an opening reception on Wednesday, June 15th from 5-7 pm. Wild West Cocktail & Vino Reception, with Music by Jevonchi.

This new series of paintings “Western Pop,” builds on the “Old West/Modern Myth” series. Not just a continuation, but an exploration of the impact “the west” has on pop culture. As was expressed with the first set in this series, myth and metaphor are used as tools to amuse, arouse and provoke thoughts and feelings. We are continually using these myths and metaphors of the “the west” to build new aspects of culture. These influences have permeated this culture, high and low, and it has had a particular impact on pop culture/pop art. The art critic Alloway noted the pop art movement of the 50s and 60s “reflected on the familiar imagery of the urban environment.” This series of paintings, “Western Pop,” reflects on the familiar motifs of the west in the pop culture landscape.

Alex Brochon, Vigilant Repose, Acrylic on panel, 36 x 48 in.
